ASSESSMENT STUDIES OF POST TSUNAMI RECONSTRUCTION IN TAMIL NADU

Hunnarshala was commissioned to carryout assessments of the post tsunami reconstruction in Tamil Nadu. These reports were used as inputs by the Tamil Nadu government, NGO’s and Donors for improving their programs. There were three assessments carried out between March 2006 and June 2007, which were tabled in multi stakeholder workshops The evaluations covered a range of construction related subjects including design of homes and settlements; public buildings; infrastructure including drinking water, waste water management and energy; safety from future disasters; quality of construction; participation by the home owners; management and coordination by the government; environmental footprint of the construction; traditional building practices and their incorporation into the government guidelines.

  3. Socio-Environmental & Governance Assessment of Post Tsunami Reconstruction Tanilnadu (District Nagapatinum, Kaniyakumari)- June 2007 
​Hunnarshala designed the methodology for the studies; put the teams together to carry out the studies or surveys; analysed the information; held consultations; developed the recommendations and prepared the reports.
